There is no specific focus for a single kind or restaurant, I've written about the latest hot-spot cafes to ethnic and traditional places at the heart of the city and people for decades.

Zam Zam

This is the most sought after destination in city for the best cooked chicken dishes. The 'Shawai' is the all time best seller of Zam Zam. It's very rushy always. It's an excellent place to hangout with friends. If you dont want to be on the rush at the palayam outlet. Then navigate to their new outlet in Nanthencode it's more peaceful there.

Villa maya is an old dutch estate revamped into a resturant. It's speciality is the great ambience with lawn, fountain and music. The interior furnishing of the hotel is just like traditional palace, where there is even a facility to dine on a bed-with-table. Very romantic place.

You get a lot of tasty Chinese dishes here. All the items tastes good and are worth the money.

Curry Chatty is a single restaurant with 3 separate sections inside. Indian, Chinese and Punjabi. The food is great as is the ambience.

Pathaayam

Pathayam is a place that serves only organic food to the customers. The regular dishes will taste really different from usual because they prepare it naturally. There are also lot of unheard natural dishes to experiment with. They food is very healthy and nutritious.

Saurashtrabhavan

It's a very small punjabi restuarant in the middle of the city. It's one of the oldest legendary hotels in Trivandrum. It's there since the last 30 years with the same dishes served everyday. If you are looking for rare restaurants with a long history then this might be the one. Eventhough, the surroundings are not very neat I couldn't find any cease in rush. People were on queue for a seat when I went there. The 30 year serving sure must have created a habit of eating from there once in a while for many people. The amazing thing about suvarashtrabhavan is that they've been serving only one dish since the beginning. That's puri with a variety of dal curry, chopped onion and pappad - these are the only items available there. They also have a special variety of tea called masala-tea.
